H'Art & Soul of Haiti - 9/11/09
Friends of Hôpital Albert Schweitzer Haiti hosted 300 guests in Bakery Square for the 10th Annual H’art & Soul of Haiti. The evening was full of splendid musical groups including Chris Valen, Cellofourte, and Yves Jean, “Pittsburgh’s own international Haitian-American sensation.” In a silent auction, attendees bid on Haitian art, a trip on the Yangtze River, and a “mango” chest. big Burrito Catering prepared a delectable assortment of Haitian-inspired fare, including Yucatan black bean dip, paella, red wine chipotle braised beef brisket, and bay scallop seviche. After dinner, Friends of HAS Haiti showed the world premiere of its film Step by Step, about the reforestation of the mountains near the hospital in Artibonite Valley, Haiti. That evening, the Friends raised more than $200,000 for their humanitarian efforts. Photography by Megan Wylie
