H'Art & Soul of Haiti
A small piece of Haiti traveled to the Strip District when Friends of Hôpital Albert Schweitzer Haiti hosted H’Art and Soul of Haiti 2008 at the Senator John Heinz History Center. The event raised $200,000 to support the hospital and community development system founded in Haiti by Dr. Larimer Mellon and his wife, Gwen Grant Mellon, in 1956. In addition to dinner by the Common Plea and a performance by The Tom Tom Club featuring Chris Frantz and Tina Weymouth, co-founders of the ’80s rock band Talking Heads — that got everyone dancing. And, for the hallmark of the event, Haitian art was on sale throughout the evening to give the 400 guests a true taste of Haitian culture. Photos by Megan Wylie.
