American Ireland Fund Pittsburgh Dinner Gala - 3/14/09
Pittsburgh went green for an evening at the American Ireland Fund Pittsburgh Dinner Gala at the Heinz Field East Club Lounge. Six hundred guests visited Irish visited stations showcasing the best from the country's provinces, including glass blowing, a pub-crawl, and a Gaelic name artist, as well as multiple Irish performances. After the reception, Ireland’s national anthem, “Soldier’s Song,” was sung by Bruce Foley, and Bishop David A. Zubik provided the blessing before the dinner of Ashford duo of lamb and organic Irish salmon with cork cakes, white and green asparagus, and baby carrots and beets. Dinner chair Jeffrey Romoff accepted The Chairmen’s Award on behalf of UPMC for its work in improving healthcare in Ireland. And, almost better than the $800,000 raised for the American Ireland Fund was dinner chair Dan Rooney’s appointment to be the U.S. Ambassador to Ireland just days later, on St. Patrick’s Day.
