Spring Hat Luncheon - 5/1/10
Like newly sprouted spring flowers, hats covered in ribbons and fabulous flair blossomed in the Entry Garden of Highland Park at the 12th Annual Spring Hat Luncheon, hosted by the Pittsburgh Parks Conservancy. The Spring Hat Luncheon was held to celebrate the revitalization of Highland Park after five years of renovations. Approximately 670 attendees were treated to cocktails, followed by a luncheon catered by The Duquesne Club. The Spring Hat Luncheon raised $360,000 to benefit Pittsburgh Park System revitalization projects, such as the restoration of the city’s four regional parks, plus smaller outside parks. To promote and encourage the green lifestyle, the Luncheon utilized eco-friendly techniques, such as printing invitations by wind-power and using recycled paper for menus, programs, and other paper products. “This was really a very special day,” said Barb Mendlowitz, who has promoted the Spring Hat Luncheon for all 12 years. “The weather was so beautiful and everyone was able to be outside. It seemed more special than all the others.” Photography by Megan Wylie
