Guardian Spirit Opening Reception - 10/22/10
Three women, three different cultures, and three artistic mediums converged at Four Winds Gallery in Shadyside for the Guardian Spirit exhibit. The opening reception featured the presentation of a collaborative piece between metalsmith Carol Krena, ceramicist Roxanne Swentzell, and woodworker Mira Nakashima, as well as their individual works. The collaborative work was unified by a focus on nature, with Krena creating a sterling silver and turquoise abstract bird sculpture, Swentzell making a female figure from clay, and Nakashima crafting an accompanying wooden throne and staff. More than 200 people attended the event, some traveling from as far as New Mexico to purchase the artists’ works. “It was an overwhelming response,” says John Krena, owner of Four Winds Gallery. “The turnout was incredible, and there was a lot of positive feedback.”
