Black and Golden Anniversary Celebration - 10/6/10
Allegheny Valley School celebrated 50 years of caring for children and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities at the Black & Golden 50th Anniversary Celebration. More than 450 guests gathered at the Carnegie Museums of Pittsburgh to honor the organization’s spirit of compassion. “It was a celebration of Allegheny Valley School and the critical care and services it provides to the community,” says Dorothy Hunter Gordon, chief development officer of Allegheny Valley School. “It was an outpouring of support for what we do.” Attendees enjoyed cocktails, a raffle of two Super Bowl tickets — Pittsburgh Steelers President Art Rooney II and his wife, Greta, served as honorary co-chairs — and a performance by Broadway star Mandy Patinkin. “He was so engaging. His talent is out of this world,” says Gordon. “It was an amazing show.” The successful event raised $300,000 for the organization.
