Party for the Garden - 10/16/09
The Botanic Garden of Western Pennsylvania gave 200 guests a glimpse of its future at Party for the Garden. The soiree transformed J. Verno Studios on the South Side into five gardens that the Botanic Garden will build on more than 450 acres of what is now Settlers Cabin Park. In lieu of valet parking, Pedi Cabs whisked attendees from their cars parked down the street. Aquatic Gardens, Vegetable Gardens, Eastern European Wood, Asian Woods, and the Children’s Adventure Garden were filled with cuisine catered by Tallulah’s Café and Catering — from Gorgonzola pine nut tarts and crab cakes with mango chutney to penne pasta with tomato vodka sauce and Maki rolls, the “Taste of the Gardens” theme was carried out eloquently. A silent auction that included brunch for two and a spa gift certificate at Tara, A Country Inn, gift certificates to big Burrito Restaurant Group’s establishments, and an overnight stay at the Renaissance Pittsburgh Hotel helped to raise $75,000 for the Botanic Garden.
