Strike Out Cancer - 6/3/10
Gilda’s Club hit a homerun at its Fourth Annual Strike Out Cancer benefit with the Pittsburgh Pirates. Up to bat was pitcher Paul Maholm, who hosted the evening with his wife, Jessica. Pirates owner Frank Coonelly, manager John Russell, pitchers Zach Duke, Jeff Karstens, and Evan Meek, outfielder Garrett Jones, and a number of other players had a ball raising funds for Gilda’s Club. One hundred twenty guests enjoyed hors d’oeuvres by Michael Lench Catering and live entertainment by pianist Andrew Kirk as they vied for auction and raffle items that included the chance to take part in a VIP baseball game experience and a behind-the-scenes broadcasting experience. Several high-end pieces of Pirates memorabilia were also up for grabs. “It was an enjoyable, relaxing, comfortable night,” says program director Colleen Dwyer.
